A New Arrow in Our Quiver

From the esteemed Paul Aussendorf

Many of you, especially among the Mountain Goats, know Paul Assendorf as an exceptionally nice guy and strong hiker. What you might not know is that he is super smart, spent his career with the GAO managing big projects and that he went back to work during this COVID crisis to help manage the government response! Well, maybe he was COVID bored, too.

So when Paul says something about COVID, we should all listen. I saw a blurb yesterday about WA Notify but didn’t pay too much attention to it. Paul says we all should.

Washington is the twelfth state to launch a COVID tracking app for iOS and Android phones. I know we all have at least a little trepidation about sharing personal information, but Paul assures us that this app is safe and will help fight the virus. I’ve downloaded it on my phone and haven’t seen any mysterious black helicopters flying overhead yet. And at least theoretically, it will tell me if I’ve had close contact with a person confirmed to have COVID.

Here is a blurb from the WA Notify website and a link:

Washington Exposure Notifications (also known as WA Notify) is a new tool that works through smartphones, without sharing any personal information, to alert users if they may have been exposed to COVID-19. It is completely private, and doesn’t know or track who you are or where you go.

In separate (hiking) news, I visited the Little River Trail this week. It is just as magical as the Hoh rainforest and a lot closer. If you haven’t been, give it a ramble. Easy access and lovely old growth.
