A Robust Immune Response

And the CDC

The sun and warm temperatures have been making more regular appearances, crocuses & daffodils are popping up, I bought seeds for the garden: spring must be arriving (actually in less than 2 weeks on the calendar).

Patti & I got our second dose of the Moderna vaccine at St. Michael’s in Silverdale on Monday. I must say, they are running an exceptionally tight ship! Once again, we were in & out in less than a half hour. Thank you all volunteers. I’ve also seen recent email alerts that they (and other sites) have extra doses of vaccine at day’s end. If you don’t yet qualify, keep your eyes open: with a little effort you can get your shot now!

We felt normal until mid-morning on Tuesday. Then we developed what you might call a robust immune response. No fever, but we both jumped in bed with what felt like the flu. Never fear, we are just fine this morning — and protected!

Which brings us to another topic of conversation: the new CDC guidelines for the fully vaccinated. The CDC says that we are now allowed to have dinner unmasked indoors with small groups of vaccinated friends. We can visit and hug our low-risk unvaccinated family members (grandkids beware)! Non-essential travel is still discouraged, but that seems likely to evolve soon. And don’t forget: it takes two weeks for the vaccine to work completely.

So what does that mean for us and hiking? I’m still not sure. Dedicated hikers have formed their personal “pods” and that seems to be working. Let’s keep that up! I’ve heard every opinion from “Why aren’t we hiking NOW?” to “I won’t hike in a group until the WHOLE PLANET is vaccinated!” And you know what, every opinion is legitimate and should be respected. Let’s just keep doing what we are doing for now and not impose our views on others. I predict good things for us all down the line.

Most importantly: get vaccinated! More than half Kitsap seniors are vaccinated now. Let’s get that above 80% and extend the gift to the youngsters. That’s all for now.
