This summer seems to be just zooming past us. But the good news is the hikes have been glorious! Just a note: you might want to bring bug spray for the next month or so. A few of us (myself included) report annoying bites on recent jaunts. Here is what is planned for the coming Monday: Walkers: The Walkers will walk McCormick Woods Trail in Port Orchard. They will carpool at the Kitsap Mall (Silverdale Way side near Sears), departing at 9:30am. Those in the south end can meet the carpool group at the McCormick Woods Golf Club parking lot (5155 McCormick Woods Dr. SW, Port Orchard, WA 98367) at 10am. They will then drive to the trailhead together near Deer Park a short distance away. Hikers: The hikers will hike Lena Lake. Bring water shoes if you want to cross the river & hike up the Valley of the Silent Men. There is no bridge but the water level is low enough to rock hop &/or wade across. The trail up the valley is in rough condition but passable to some point. They will depart Poulsbo at 8 am. Mountain Goats: The Goats will hike Royal Basin. They will get an early start to compensate for the long drive and hike, departing from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 7am.
