Fall: So Much More Than Rain

This week’s note is about hiking

We have a number of great trail reports from this past week's glorious fall weather. Niru & Ven ventured up to Mount Rainier and had a fabulous time hiking. They had the experience of a lifetime when a momma bear and her two cubs hopped on the trail ahead of them and saunter up & away. Sadly, Mailchimp won't let me share their video.

I've been walking slowly in the forest recently and can report that mushroom season is in full bloom! Both white & golden chanterelles, lobsters, cauliflowers, angel wings, bear's head, and porcini have come back to the kitchen.

Bob & Mark (not me) are true GOATS! They day hiked the Enchantments last week, logging 75,000 steps. Yep, in 1 hike.

Two groups, one Goats & one Hikers, converged at Mount Ellinor on Monday. It is still steep.

And then Tuesday John, Kathleen & I headed to Mount Rainier ourselves. We hiked Rampart Ridge on Tuesday. Then John & I hiked from Sunrise down Huckleberry Creek on Wednesday. We saw ZERO other hikers once we left Sunrise. And best of all, we met the famous Sunrise Silver Fox going back to the top!

The weather looks a bit wet this weekend. But don't be deterred: there are plenty of great fall hikes just waiting for you.
