Sorry I’m late.
Patti and I have been in the HOT Willamette Valley of Oregon, creating a temporary shortage of Pinot Noir and celebrating my youngest brother’s 50th birthday. But we made it home today in time to get a hiking notice out and see that smoke drifted in a bit overnight. Continuing our discussion on safety from last week: please do not forget that we are in the hottest time of the year right now. It is especially important to bring extra water, your water filter and electrolytes with you on hikes in August, especially longer ones (like the Hikers & Goats will be doing this coming Monday. Be careful and watch out for each other! Debbi Ruiz asks that anyone with the Hiker group with especially lovely photos email her a copy so that she can include your magic in the notes. Ginny Bell is participating on a great fundraiser: the WTA hike-a-thon. If you are interested in joining the fun, check it out at https://www.wta.org/get-involved/join/hike-a-thon? Here is what is planned for the coming Monday: Walkers: The Walkers are hiking Fort Flagler Historical State Park on Marrowstone Island. They will carpool in Poulsbo at the North Viking Park & Ride (in the very back), departing at 9:30 am or meet at the Trailhead parking (Google Maps address: 10541 Flagler Rd, Nordland, WA 98358) for an approximate 10:30 am start. We park near the RV campsite/boat ramp/restrooms at the west end of the park. A Washington state Discovery Pass is required --you may be able to purchase the pass at the entrance (kiosk with credit card) if needed. Hikers: The hikers will hike Royal Basin. Please bring extgra water and bug spray. They will get an early start to compensate for the lingdrive and hike by departing at 7am from the Poulsbo P&R. Mountain Goats: The Hikers will hike Hawk Peak from Tull Canyon. They will depart from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 7am.
