We made it to Death Valley
This will be a quick note, since we are travelling. But my goodness! Do we have a lot to report. We left last Wednesday and headed to the Gorge to search for that rusty truck and what is left of the wildflowers. We found the wildflowers at least. The balsamroot are SO HAPPY!
Then on Thursday we followed Mark Fisher’s advice and visited Silver Falls State Park in Salem, OR. If you haven’t been here yet, add it to your checklist now! Park trails and structures are gifts of the CCC and WPA from the 1930s. You can walk behind waterfalls. Delightful.
Then we headed to Reno for a family wedding over the weekend, followed by Sequoia NP. Patti & I agree: this may be our new favorite National Park. The ancient groves are just so peaceful and awe inspiring. Today we kept heading south to Death Valley NP, 180 degrees from Sequoia (and close to 180 degrees in temperature!). The Ranch is a very nice resort. We’ll spend tomorrow tooling around.
Don’t forget: hikes are scheduled to resume June 7th. We’ll talk about locations, protocols and helpful hints soon
