Festivus is cancelled this year
For those of you who are not Seinfeld fans, Festivus is an imaginary celebration which becomes to center of one of the TV series funniest episodes. The “fesitval for the rest of us” is celebrated by people who pass on the commercialism of modern winter holidays. It is marked by standing around an aluminum pole, feats of strength and a dinner: and most importantly with “the airing of grievances.”
Well, let me tell you! We ALL have a lot of grievances as 2020 comes to a close: so many that it could stretch well into 2021. But we also have a lot to be thankful for (apologies for the hanging participle - my 10th grade English teacher just shuddered).
As the new year approaches, let’s all work on smiling and being optimistic. We have two vaccines, the days are getting a little longer, we live in a truly magical place, hiking is one of the safest physical and emotional outlets in our quiver during COVID, and we still have our sense of humor. There is literally a beautiful sunrise outside my window. I look forward to hiking as a group again sometime in 2021.
In the meantime, let’s keep our holiday celebrations small and safe. Here are a couple of YouTube links to help you smile: Priscilla & her son Max with some beautiful music and a clip from Seinfeld.
