And a Quote from Marcus Aurelius
All I have for you today are a few random thoughts. No telling where they came from or why they bubbled to the surface.
Figs!
They are definitely an underrated bounty, especially up here. We all know where a fig tree lives, but how often do we visit. A friend brought me a sack of lovely, goopy, dripping green figs yesterday. They were boiled down in a lemony syrup and have rested overnight. Today they will go in jars and hopefully be half as good as my Cajun grandma's fig preserves.
Problem solving.
Have you ever just been stumped by an issue? And stuck bearing down on it? Here is my secret: look away! Do anything else, occupy your mind. And then like magic a solution might just appear. If you take a month off from your yoga practice, you will be reminded of why consistency leads to competence.
Lake of the Angels
should not be attempted by mere mortals. My legs still hurt 2 days later. But cutthroat trout live there.
Be like a rocky promontory against which the restless surf continually pounds; it stands fast while the churning sea is lulled to sleep at its feet. I hear you say, "How unlucky that this should happen to me!" Not at all! Say instead, "How lucky that I am not broken by what has happened and am not afraid of what is about to happen. -- Marcus Aurelius
Labor Day is in less than two weeks. Our trails will be less crowded soon. And a request for some trail knowledge: Patti & I are heading to Kalaloch for a few days of coastal paradise after Labor Day. I would like to explore the Queets while we are up there. Has anyone been there? How was the hike? How is the fishing?
