Monday Hikes, December 20

Merry Christmas to you All! Good morning everyone, I’m a little late getting the hike notice out this week, as a friend invited me on an adventure to go kokanee and rainbow trout fishing with him at Lake Roosevelt above the Grand Coulee Dam. We had a marvelous time, came home with full limits of fish and a reminder that winter has arrived in the PNW. The Goats spent an extra half hour or so last Monday cutting logs and dodging slush on the way to the South Fork Trailhead. I saw a report of 2-3 feet of snow on Notch Pass this week. So have fun, but be prepared: tire chains, extra food, lots of warm dry clothes and a hiking plan left with loved ones are all good ideas. On a sad note, we note the passing of long time Kitsap Monday Hiker Ellen Schroeder. I never got to hike with Ellen, but those who did say they were blessed. Ellen Schroeder Obituary - Kitsap Sun Here is what is planned for the coming Monday: Walkers: The Walkers are hiking Bainbridge Island’s Battle Point Park to Grand Forest West (via the Forest to Sky Trail). They will carpool in Poulsbo at the North Viking Park & Ride (in the very back), departing at 9:30am or meet at the Battle Point parking lot (address: 11299 Arrow Point Dr NE, Bainbridge Island WA 98110) for a 10:00am start. Hikers: The Hikers will hike the Wildcat Trail on Green Mountain. They will depart from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 8am or meet at the trailhead at 8:30.. Mountain Goats: The Goats will snowshoe/hike towards Lake Angeles. They will depart from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 8am. Bring snowshoes or microspikes! A little advance warning: next Monday, December 27th marks one year from my most eventful hike of 2020 — the snowshoe adventure on Hurricane Hill. I intend to return, make it to the top & back and celebrate!
