Thank you Jane Good morning everyone, I have a great book recommendation for you, thanks to a carpooling conversation with a fellow hiker. We usually spend post-hike carpool time reveling in the wonders of our hike or imagining what we’ll have for dinner, but occasionally we will stray to other topics. And this past Monday it was books. Jane raved about her most recent read Facing the Mountain, written by Daniel James Brown (who also wrote The Boys in the Boat). She happened to have the book in her car and lent it to me. It is the True Story of Japanese American Heroes in World War II (the actual subtitle) and a captivating tale. Lisa recommended another book, The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett. I haven’t started it yet but will. My contribution is a book published a while ago, but still a fascinating explanation of our regionalism and cultural differences, American Nations by Colin Woodward. What are you reading? We’re heading into summer reading season. Here is what is planned for the coming Monday: Walkers: The Walkers are hiking the North End of the Larry Scott/Olympic Discovery Trail. They will carpool in Poulsbo at the North Viking Park & Ride (in the very back), departing at 9:30am or meet at the Haines Place Park & Ride (400 12th Street, across the street from the Port Townsend's Safeway store) for a start at about 10:30. Hikers: The Hikers will hike Lena Lake. They will depart from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 8am. Mountain Goats: The Goats will hike Shady Lane and Dry Creek from Staircase. Trail reports for Shady Lane are ‘shady’ with lots of blowdowns. We shall see. They will depart from the Bremerton Airport at 8am. Northenders may meet at the Poulsbo P&R at 7:30.
