Slugs!
Good morning everyone, I try, I really do. We hike & spend so much time in nature, it ought to be easy to find something positive in everything. But when it comes to slugs, I just can’t do it! We optimistically put out a bunch of vegetable starts a while back. Next morning: nothing but bare twigs & happy slugs. They laugh at Sluggo, diatomaceous earth and copper strips. Beer and a sharp stick get a few, but that just leaves more for the remaining hordes. Can anyone suggest an effective strategy (or a support group)? Maybe I need a duck - I hear they eat slugs. And don’t even get me started about rain! Here is what is planned for the coming Monday: Walkers: The Walkers will walk McCormick Woods in Port Orchard. They will carpool at the Kitsap Mall (Silverdale Way side near Wild Wings BBQ), departing at 9:30am. Those in the south end can meet the carpool group at the McCormick Woods Golf Club parking lot (5155 McCormick Woods Dr. SW, Port Orchard, WA 98367) at 10am. They will then drive to the trailhead together near Deer Park a short distance away. Limited Parking Hikers: The Hikers will hike Lower Big Quilcene. Thanks to great work by the Gray Wolf Trail Crew, the fallen log at Camp Jolly has been cleared! They will depart from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 8am. Mountain Goats: The Goats will adventure up on Hurricane Ridge. They will either venture down Obstruction Point Road or conquer Hurricane Hill, depending on conditions. Microspikes and/or snowshoes will likely be essential. They will depart from the Poulsbo Viking Park & Ride at 8am.
