Wait, What happened to spring?
The red-winged blackbirds have been announcing a change with their odd trills, all our bulbs are peeping up, my camellia is dropping its showy blooms. Just when we all thought (imagined, hoped) that spring was around the corner, Old Man Winter decides to remind us to look at our calendar! Dig the heavy down jacket out of the closet one more time and get ready for our annual three days of chaos. SNOW!
But let’s not get too dramatic: our East Coast friends have been shoveling snow for a month, the Great Lakes are frozen solid and even my uncle in Beaumont, Texas has sleet in the forecast! Our winter is mild enough that I hiked in a light jacket Monday.
Yes, you read that right! I HIKED ON MONDAY! The Big Creek Loop welcomed me back to the trail. Everything seems to be in working order and it was wonderful seeing a few socially distanced friends.
In other news, our household received the first Moderna dose at St. Michael’s in Silverdale yesterday. The process was exceptionally efficient - less than 30 minutes door-to-door and that included saying hi to Fireman Bob who was volunteering. Make your appointment if you haven’t yet. It was a snap.
A number of folks have gently asked about hiking opportunities in the past few weeks. We still aren’t organizing hikes, but that time may be coming sometime soon. So here are a few questions for the group:
When would you be prepared to join a hike?
With how many others would you be prepared to hike?
Would you sign up using an on line tool (Sign Up Genius)?
Would you volunteer to be an organizer?
In the meantime, I strongly recommend the Minestrone recipe recently published in the Seattle Times. It will make your kitchen smell like heaven and warm your soul.
