The Press Route is Complete!

The Press Route is Complete!

Hello fellow hikers! It is good to be back after an entire week in the Olympics. We had an amazing time! Highlights from the week included: - not seeing another soul (other than our group) for two whole days! - being the first people this year to visit Goblin Gates - meeting a beautiful string of mules and then pack llamas - getting lost (then found) three different times - walking fro 3 solid days through never cut old growth - seeing 130 year old blazes left to mark the trail by the Press Expedition - fording the Elwha and the Quinault, crossing on foot & logs - sharing a meadow at Low Divide with a wise, uninterested bear - climbing through a glacier carved ravine to Martins Park - being serenaded by owls, grouse, varied thrushes and coyotes - doing sun salutations as the sun saluted us over a distant ridge line - aching, climbing, moaning, laughing and crying with dear friends - then coming home, kissing our loved ones and sleeping in a real bed. Our stats: 65 miles & 8632 feet of up & down over 7 days, countless smiles Here’s what is planned for the coming week: Walkers: The Walkers are hiking Kitsap County Guillemont Cove Nature Reserve. No animals allowed. They will carpool at the Kitsap Mall (Silverdale Way side near Sears), departing at 9:30am or meet at the Trailhead parking (address: 19235 NW Stavis Bay Rd, Seabeck, WA 98380) for a 10:00am start. From Hwy 3, take Newberry Hill exit; travel to Seabeck Holly Road; turn right. Drive to Miami Beach Road; turn right - drive to "Y"; veer left onto Stavis Bay Road. Drive 4.5 miles to the entrance and parking lot. Hikers: The hikers will hike Mt. Townsend, north route, via Little Quilcene Trail. They will depart Poulsbo P&R lot at 8 am.
