It looks like we’re ready to hike!
Thank you everyone for your enthusiastic response and never-ending patience. It has been quite a busy week: over 160 of you have responded to last week’s note, indicating that you are vaccinated and ready to hike!
As a result we now have three Sign Up Genius groups: 72 Walkers, 96 Hikers and 91 Goats. How could that be when only 160 folks responded? Many of you want to receive notices about hikes for more than one group. As a test, the Goats set up a hike to Miller Peninsula State Park yesterday and invited all 91 people. We had a few minor hiccups, but it seems like everyone who wanted to sign up was able to. There were 14 participants, including Julie & Steve who were on their first hike.
This is encouraging: a few new Goats arrived, the crowd wasn’t overwhelming and (at least as far as I can tell) nobody got left out or left behind. So our plan remains the same: unless things go sideways we hope to have a Walker, Hiker and Goat hike on Monday, June 7.
You shouldn’t have to do anything to be notified as long as you’ve let me know you are interested. When the “event” is published, you will receive a notice via email. So don’t worry until then: you aren’t being left behind.
Another note: Patti and I are hitting the road next week for a 3 week driving adventure through the US Southwest. I will try to keep in touch but can’t promise. Next week we will have a guest writer and a real columnist! My Uncle David was a real live journalist for many years. He has been my inspiration all my life but especially as I’ve tried to write to you in the last year. I will share one of his lovely columns with you next week.
