But my deck is still wet!
Summer should mean reliably dry weather, parades, BBQs, Rotary Auction, camp for the little ones and of course gloriously long days hiking on Mondays. Well, we can hope for at least a little bit of all those things, just not today.
It seems like the 4th of July has flown onto our weekly calendars, even while time is crawling by like a slug looking for our lettuce patch. But here we are, this coming weekend! Happy 4th to everyone. Please be safe and enjoy.
Kitsap County's request to move to Phase 3 has not yet been approved and we can all understand why. While there were only 11 confirmed COVID cases in May, that number grew to 60 in June. We are still in a much safer place than southern California, Arizona, Texas or Florida. But growing by a factor of 6x in one month means something. So no small group organized hikes for a while yet.
In more encouraging news, Olympic National Park opened to backcountry camping this morning, excluding the coast! So if you have reservations, check the ONP website. I have a reservation for a trip from Graves Creek to Dosewallips starting July 19. Any helpful hints from experienced through hikers is much appreciated.
A small group of us made it to Upper Lena Lake on Monday. That was the HARDEST hike I've ever done. Here is a picture from the lake. Notice all of us are socially distanced!
